On the occasion of the World Day of Cities, which is celebrated every year on October 31, a competition on research and project work was held among the students of the country, jointly organized by the United Nations Development Program and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. The competition was held within the framework of the project "Sustainable development of cities in Turkmenistan: integrated development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza" on household waste management. The main goal of the competition was to identify talented students in the relevant field, and students who are studying environmental studies in our country took part in it.

In the scientific work presented by the students, the ideas of producing new products from household waste (plastic, glass, paper and wood) through innovative approaches and using them in everyday life were put forward.

Students of the "Ecology and nature management" major of the Oguz han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan actively participated in the competition. That is, under the guidance of Bahadir Yuldashov, the senior teacher and head of the Department of Ecology and Ecological Technologies, Tacheva Ogulshir won the 1st place with the project work called "No-waste technology of plastic waste processing and production of new products", Bekhanov Jemshit won the 3rd place with the project work called "Technology of extracting table salt from the residual waste of Garlyk potash mining complex" and under the guidance of Merjen Gurbandurdyeva, the teacher of the department, Serdarov Söver won the 4th place with the project work entitled “Technologies of manufacturing edible bioplastics”.

It should be noted that practical work on the projects mentioned above has been carried out at the "Ecological Biotechnology" scientific manufacturing center of the university since 2020.

All the winning students were awarded with certificates and gifts by the United Nations Development Programme.
